The house was incredible, awkward, strange, and huge...but not really very creepy, despite popular belief. Some believe the place is haunted, but most of the tour guides don't even believe it, and they're there all the time.
Mrs. Winchester stood 4'10 and as she continued to build her house, 24 hours a day for 38 continuous years, she built parts to fit her size. So some doorways are very small. Some of the staircases have stairs that are only 2 inches tall because as she aged, she couldn't lift her legs up enough to climb an average set of stairs.
There are many strange and unique qualities to the house, including windows that just back up to a wall, stairs that went straight up to the ceiling, dead end hallways, and doors that lead to nowhere. But I was more amazed by the detail in the decorating: the plaster walls, the intricate ceilings, the incredible stained glass windows, etc.
Here's a whole mess of pictures from our time at the Mystery House.
